"We can imagine an escalator as being a (conveyor) belt between two different states of consciousness. On the one hand (beginning or end, depending on how you see it) the lower (or higher) level, and on the other hand a progression or pro-‘motion’ of the first state. Clinging to one side or the other is not possible - for to effectively ascend or descend, one has to let go of whatever is anchoring him or her at either pole/edge of the apparatus. One is discovering within motion something terribly important. That in order to move, one has to let go; to trans-port by means of a trans-formation."
